Do you want to know the amazing world around us? Hontza Museoa, the only official museum of Natural Sciences in Bizkaia, invites you to discover the amazing natural diversity of our planet. With a collection of more than 47,000 specimens, this unique space offers a tour of the five continents, immersing the visitor in a world of flora, fauna and geology.
A natural treasure in the heart of Euskadi
Located in Mañaria, less than 30 minutes from Bilbao, the Hontza Museoa houses an impressive sample of world biodiversity. From a comprehensive herbarium with more than 850 species to a collection of cave bear fossils, to a wide variety of minerals, rocks and marine animals, the museum offers a fascinating and educational experience for all ages.
What will you find at Hontza Museoa?
- Herbarium with more than 850 representations of aquatic and terrestrial plants.
- Examples of the most varied types of fungi and mushrooms.
- Geological samples of minerals, rocks and sandstones.
- Collection of plant, invertebrate and vertebrate fossils, among which the bones of several specimens of cave bears stand out.
- Exemplars of invertebrates such as sponges and sea urchins, corals, mollusks and arthropods.
Schedules and prices
The Hontza Museoa opens its doors from Tuesday to Sunday, with hours adapted to the different seasons of the year. The entrance price is 5 euros per person, although children under 12 years of age and ICOM members have free entry. In addition, reduced rates are offered for school groups and other groups.
