The Alto Horno de Sestao comes to life with a light and sound show

A tribute to the industrial past that becomes a new tourist attraction.

The iconic Alto Horno de Sestao has once again been the center of attention. Thanks to the collaboration of the visual artist Jon Astorquiza and the composer Joseba Beristain, this emblematic symbol of Biscay’s industrial heritage has been given a new breath, transforming into a light and sound spectacle that will move visitors.

A sensory journey through history

The Labe Garaia park in Sestao will be illuminated every month with a careful staging that will transport spectators to the golden era of Altos Hornos de Vizcaya. Two staffs, equipped with powerful LED spotlights, will project a wide range of colors onto the structure of the blast furnace, creating a magical and evocative atmosphere.

But the experience goes beyond the visual. A soundtrack composed by Joseba Beristain, which includes authentic sounds of the mines, mineral transportation and industrial activity of the time, will accompany the images, immersing the public in an authentic historical immersion.

A beacon illuminating the future

In addition to this monthly spectacle, the Blast Furnace will be lit up every night from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in winter and from 10.30 p.m. to 11.30 p.m. in summer, with a fixed white light, becoming a real beacon to guide visitors. But that is not all. Throughout the year, the monument will be dressed in different colours to commemorate special dates and raise awareness of various causes.

A boost for industrial tourism

This project, carried out by the company Elektrart, the same one that illuminated the Carola Crane in the Bilbao Maritime Museum, represents a boost for industrial tourism in the area. The Alto Horno de Sestao thus consolidates itself as a cultural reference and a first-class tourist attraction.
