The best museums in Bilbao to go with children

Bilbao is a city that offers many cultural options for the whole family to enjoy. The little ones can also enjoy a visit to a museum thanks to the varied and interesting activities they can enjoy.
Here are some of the most outstanding activities for children offered by the museums of Bilbao.
Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is one of the most famous museums in the world for its avant-garde architecture and contemporary art collection. Children will be impressed by the shapes and colours of the building, designed by Frank Gehry, and the works of artists such as Jeff Koons, Anish Kapoor and Louise Bourgeois.
The museum also has specific spaces and programmes for children of different ages, from 6 months upwards. Among the wide range of family activities offered by the museum, the following stand out:
- ART Space: workshops and creative laboratories to discover and create as a family. A real adventure for young artists.
- Baby Art: babies can also learn about art and interact with it through an activity aimed at stimulation and play.
- Books Alive! is a programme in English in which children listen to stories and participate in games with their families.
- Architecture laboratory: an activity where children learn about architectural concepts in a playful way, through drawings, models and games.
- Yoga as a family. Art and yoga movements adapted to children, to share and connect as a family.
- Learning to draw: drawing course for children.

Ría de Bilbao Maritime Museum
The Maritime Museum of Bilbao – Itsasmuseum BIlbao offers a varied agenda of activities for children.
The Ría de Bilbao Maritime Museum is a great place for children to discover the maritime culture of Bilbao and Bizkaia with their families, through its exhibitions and activities.
In addition to the children’s activities proposed by the museum on a regular basis, which you can find out about through our agenda, the museum offers families other materials such as a pop-up map-guide. This is a creative pop-up map, available in Spanish and Basque, which allows families to discover some of the museum’s “treasures” in a self-guided, fun and educational way. It includes a “Did you know that…?” with questions about the exhibition.
Another of the museum’s educational proposals is the card game, made in collaboration with the Bilbao Bizkaia Water Consortium, especially aimed at schools, to provide a fun and entertaining way to learn about the urban water cycle process and its importance in guaranteeing the sustainability of the planet.
In addition, the museum has an educational classroom, a space especially designed for children, where they will find educational games and tools for children and their families to discover all the secrets of the town’s seafaring past. Among them, the seven scenes represented with Playmobil clicks stand out, which represent the contents of the Museum in an attractive way for families.
